Kay, Guardian of the Flag

Evidently it's more important to Sen. Hutchison to protect symbols of democracy than it is to protect democracy itself. She's done nothing to curb the Constitution-shredding shenanigans of the Bush administration, but she sure jumped on the bandwagon for the congressional distraction-du-jour: a constitutional amendment to prohibit burning the U.S. flag.

"The American flag is recognized around the world as a powerful symbol of our heritage and our freedom which many have died defending," Hutchison said.

"Desecration of the American flag is a physical action that should not be interpreted as protected speech. I support this amendment because I believe it is important to protect Old Glory, our beloved national symbol." she said.

Yes, our beloved national symbol. Too bad she won't stand up to protect our beloved nation. Thankfully the measure failed to pass, though only by one vote.
